AAHPA Scholarships 2025

The AAHPA is pleased to offer annual scholarships to qualifying Alaskan students going into fields of study or vocation related to the maritime industry and environment. 

The 2025 Scholarship application period is now CLOSED.

AAHPA, with support from our members and TransPac Marinas we are pleased to offer three (3)- $4,000 scholarships in 2025. In addition, AAHPA member TRANSPAC Marinas is partnering with us again to offer a $5,000 STEM scholarship.

2025 Scholarship Awardees:

TRANSPAC Scholarship Selection Committee awarded one $5,000:

  • Pacific Ricke is from Juneau, Alaska and will attend Bates College to study Earth and Climate Sciences.

TRANSPAC/AAHPA Scholarship Selection Committee awarded three $4000 scholarships to:

  • Trent Kittams is from Petersburg, Alaska and will attend Oregon State University to study Business Administration and Financial Management with intentions of owning and operating his own commercial fishing vessel.
  • Jackson Harmon is from Sitka, Alaska and will attend California Maritime Academy to study Marine Transportation with intentions of working for the Alaska Marine Highway.
  • Oscar Pickrell is from Ketchikan, Alaska and will attend California Maritime Academy to study Marine Transportation with intentions of working for the Alaska Marine Highway.

TRANSPAC/Moffatt & Nichol Scholarship Committee awarded one $2,000 scholarship to:

  • Joshua Duong is from Valdez and will attend University of Alaska Southeast Juneau to study Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.

2023 AAHPA Scholarship:

TRANSPAC Scholarship Selection Committee choose:

  • Isabella Priddy be awarded the $5,000 TRANSPAC scholarship. Isabella is from Craig, AK, intends to study Fisheries Biology at Lewis & Clark University and is from a commercial fisheries family.

TRANSPAC/AAHPA Scholarship Selection Committee recommends awarding three $4000 scholarships to:

  • Devin Kosbruk from Perryville, AK to study shipboard refrigeration systems at AVTEC and is from a subsistence hunting/fishing family/community.
  • Dylan Bender is from Eagle River and is currently a junior at CalMaritime and desires to come back to Alaska to sail on the R/V SIKULIAQ or AMHS.
  • Sampson Oliver is from Ketchikan, is active with Native Youth Olympics, will be attending Cal Maritime and desires to return to Alaska to work for AMHS.

2023 AAHPA Scholarship: 

There were 22 applicants for the 2023 AAHPA Scholarships. Of the 22 applicants, three $2,500 scholarships were awarded:

    • Deirdre Toyomura of Petersburg. Toyomura plans to attend Simpson College in Iowa and purse an education in marine engineering and naval architecture.
    • Jimmy Bagen of Wrangell. Bagen plans to attend the University of Alaska Southeast and purse an education in Power Technology - diesel mechanics and obtain a welding endorsement.
    • Braden Beckett of Cordova. Braden plans to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks and purse an education in welding.


    2023 TRANSPAC STEM Scholarship:

    There were 25 applicants for the 2023 TRANSPAC STEMP Scholarship. Of the 25 applicants, one $5,000 scholarship was awarded to:

    • Lucas White of Juneau. Lucas plans on attending the USCG Academy and purse an education in naval architecture.



    In addition to generous individual donations from our members during our annual raffle, AAHPA thanks sustaining members TransPac Marinas and Resolve Marine for their sponsorship of the 2024 scholarship program.
